Since 1895, six purposes have guided the direction of every chapter and brought its members unequaled opportunities for personal growth and development. Today, they are still valid as these intelligently interpreted purposes help to preserve and enhance the best values of American culture.

Chi Omega's Six Purposes Are:

  • Friendship

    • As one of the primary purposes of Chi Omega, the friendship and sisterhood shared by its members is an invaluable benefit of your membership. This includes both the bonds between the members as well as the close relations with other Greek letter societies and university officials at Arizona State University.

  • High Standards of Personnel

    • To be a Chi Omega is both an honor and a privilege. Although the members are diverse, all Chi Omegas nationwide share the common thread of strong dedication to the purposes and ideals Chi Omega was founded upon.

  • Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship

    • A college education is essential for a young woman in today's world. Chi Omega requires its members as well as chapters nationwide to achieve scholarship deemed above average for the campus. To achieve this, the values of time management, study skills and self-motivation are emphasized.

  • Participation in Campus Activities

    • Chi Omega's membership program establishes a framework of leadership and guidance through which a young woman may utilize her talents towards personal growth. An important aspect of a woman's collegiate experience is experience not only in scholastic activities but also involvement in quality campus activities that enrich the campus environment as well as the development of Chi Omega's members.

  • Career Development

    • When Chi Omega's founders developed the Fraternity's six purposes, they never knew that these purposes would have an even greater impact and appropriateness today than they did in 1895. Career development for women at the time of Chi Omega's founding was less prominent; however, the founders anticipated its future importance and made it a pivotal aspect of members' experience.

  • Community Service

    • Chi Omega and the Make-A-Wish Foundation have established a partnership since 2002. Chapters support the Make-A-Wish Foundation consistently throughout the academic year as well as other charitable organizations both on the national and campus levels.

The concept of balance is what we all strive for in our daily lives. As Chi Omegas, we find that our Ritual and the Six Purposes serve as a guide in our pursuit of happiness and a balanced life.
